Electrical Technician
Program Description
We can help you start your career as a skilled electrician in public utilities, sales, maintenance, service and repair with a degree in Electrical & Electromechanical Technology, Electrical Technician. You will spend half of your time in our hands-on lab settings which prepares you to work in residential, commercial or industrial wiring.
You’ll be able to personalize your degree with a focus that reflects your interest. These include:
- Electrical Systems Focus: You will have the knowledge and skills to succeed in fundamental electrical principles, the National Electrical Code, residential, commercial and industrial wiring, repair and maintenance of electrical motors and generators, variable speed drivers and digital control systems which includes fiber-optics, data communication and alarm systems.
- Electromechanical Systems Focus: You will be able to construct circuits and do computer aided drafting of mechanical components when you complete this program which focuses on processes directly related to electromechanical technology. Your skill set may include machining, welding, fabrication, wiring and installation of new and existing production equipment along with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Automation Systems Focus: We will prepare you for a career in industrial manufacturing settings working with a variety of automation. This includes programmable logic controllers, robotics, variable frequency drivers, vision systems and other industrial devices.

Students in ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp’s Electrical & Electromechanical and Electrician Construction – Electrical Technician program enjoy working with their hands, like technology, and are good problem solvers. They see their work in very tangible ways and enjoy seeing direct results in a finished project. The desire to be physically active on the job is important, too.

- Submit ACT, SAT, Next Generation Accuplacer, or Accuplacer test scores (reading and math) or official college transcripts showing completion of post-secondary coursework in English and math to the Admissions Office at any ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp location.
You will focus on electrical and industrial electronic principles before you choose your focus area. In addition, you are required to provide or purchase a basic tool set during the first semester.

Held annually on the first Friday in October with events that continue throughout the month, Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) provides an opportunity to showcase manufacturing careers. As manufacturers seek to fill high-skill, high-tech and high-paying jobs, MFG Day empowers manufacturers, industries and ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp to come together to address collective challenges while engaging with communities and the workforce. Students entering this program may qualify for the Scott Pathway Scholarship.
State Licensure or Certification Requirements
For the Electrical Technician AAS, completion of this program can qualify the student to receive 1-year credit toward the required experience for a Journeyman electrician license or Residential Journeyman electrician license in Nebraska.
The Technician certificate does not, on its own, qualify toward required experience in Nebraska.
